Why should you vote for a Republican candidate in a Democratic district?
We’re talking about Wisconsin Assembly District 79.
First, if you vote Democrat because you’re a Democrat and I’m not you’re saying a lot about yourself. You’re not saying anything about me. You’re saying that party politics mean more to you than anything else. It saves you a lot of time. You don’t have to know anything about anything. You only know there’s a line that runs down the middle of the ballot and you won’t cross it.
Second, you don’t like the news. Republicans are making laws, passing bills, signing executive orders and you’re upset. So if I knock on your door and say I’m a Republican, your answer is No or Hell No. The fact I’m your neighbor, a reasonable guy, out there on the street to fulfill a democratic responsibility doesn’t matter. You know what you know and you know what you think you need to know beforehand.
Third, the incumbent has been in office a long time, a decade in the Assembly. As a liberal, progressive, well informed individual always open to new ideas you want things to remain exactly the same. I can tell you as long as you vote for the incumbent they’re likely to stay that way. Most of the bills Lisa Subeck sponsored have failed.
Fourth, you know things are changing. You don’t know the answers. Neither do I, not offhand, but I’m good at learning. I never attended the same school two years in a row until I became a junior in high school, but I went on to get a master’s degree. I’ve worked many jobs. I know how to hold them and I know how to fold them and I’ve never refused work if I needed work because I thought I deserved something better.
Fifth, if you need a fifth reason, is because I care about the disadvantaged, the outright disabled, the victims who don’t make the news and I don’t brag about what I do for them. I weep because of what they must endure.
Any of that make sense to you? Any of that make you wonder if it just might be worth voting for a Republican this time to represent you in Assembly District 79?
