I live in Madison. So does most of Assembly District 79. Issues involving one involve the other and vice versa.
That’s politics.
One of the issues in Madison is body cameras for police officers. The Madison Common Council won’t approve them. They say the city can’t afford them. What the Madison Common Council can’t afford is proof presented to the public. They prefer public opinion manipulated by cameras focused on people who testify to what happened in criminal cases without ever being present, people who know they are right because they are never wrong.
Madison police want body cameras. Police departments everywhere have body cameras. Justice as determined by the courts relies upon them, but Madison won’t have them.
That’s politics.
So if Madison won’t issue body cameras for police in the performance of their duties as stewards of Public Safety, perhaps in the interest of Public Safety the State of Wisconsin should require body cameras for all law enforcement officers in cities of a certain size or withhold Public Safety funds.
