Independence Day
What does it mean to you?
Not what does it means to our Nation, 250 years old today. What does it mean to you?
What’s the problem? Where do find yourself chained? What happened to that feeling of Independence and Self-Reliance that made you believe you could do anything and if you did, if you Pursued Happiness and attained it, you could make other people happy too?
John F. Kennedy said, “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.”
He meant it.
When the Founding Fathers signed their names on what might have become their own death certificate in treason against the Crown, they pledged “to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.”
Now Fathers are unnecessary, Lives are entitled, Fortunes are digital and Honor is available on Antiques Roadshow if you’ve ever had it appraised.
John F. Kennedy is not quoted by the party that elected him President of the United States and the quote may now simply be read, “Ask not,” in deference to power and vested interest.
Today is Independence Day. Make it yours. Read your history. Read your own and ask yourself what if anything has made you subject to tyranny. Don’t waste your time finding fault with the Founding Fathers. They did the best they could. Now its your turn. My turn as well and what we do for ourselves is what we do for others in the same spirit.
Collective consciousness and social conformity are easy. All it takes is lethargy and letting the other guy do it. The miracle is Union among free individuals who, although dramatically different from one another, still come together as One to be a Nation and a People and Americans.
